Powell River nestles between the salt water of the Strait of Georgia to the southwest, and the rugged beauty of the Coastal Mountains to the northeast. By road access requires two ferries and a 1 1/2 hour drive up the Sechelt Peninsula. This semi isolated location has protected Powell River from the urban sprawl of the lower mainland and Vancouver Island.
The Regional District of Powell River stretches from Saltery Bay in the south to Lund in the north, with the latest population estimate at 22,000. Westview, the largest and most active section of Powell River, hosts the main business and shopping centers. The remaining areas of the Powell River municipality, Wildwood, Cranberry, and the Townsite, for the most part are residential and semi rural neighborhoods.
